Billy Wright was a professional British boxer, born on June 30, 1966. He grew up in nearby Ipswich, Suffolk, and began his boxing career as an amateur. Wright had a successful amateur career, winning several titles, including the ABA Heavyweight Championship in 1987.
He turned professional in 1990 and had a 14-year career, with 43 fights and 34 wins, 25 of which were by knockout. Wright competed in the heavyweight division and was known for his power, accuracy, and ability to take a punch.
Wright's most significant bout was against the former world champion Lennox Lewis in 1993. Although he lost, Wright's performance earned him considerable respect in the boxing world.
Outside of boxing, Wright was involved in various charitable causes, including a foundation that helped disadvantaged youth.
Sadly, on November 4, 2009, Wright died suddenly at the age of 43 due to complications from surgery. His legacy as a talented and dedicated boxer lives on in the memories of his fans and fellow boxers.
